After weeks of training by a very dedicated and skilled squad of debaters WADL has chosen four members to represent Western Australia at the National Championships in Brisbane in August. The members of the state team for 2010 are as follows (in alphabetical order) Shane Chandra (Hale School) Molly Dale (Presbyterian Ladies College) Poppy Damon (Captain) (Shenton College) Max Riley (Scotch College) Making the state team is a fantastic achievement. We wish them all the best over the many months of training and at the competition itself! |

The trials for the Western Australian State team for 2010 will be held at Shenton College on Sunday March 28th from 10am - 4pm. Trials are open for students in year 10 - 12. After discussion with the debating co-ordinator of Shenton College trials will still be held there. The areas we are planning to use are undamaged by the storm. On the day we will select a state team squad to participate in regular training sessions with a team of four or five eventually being selected to represent WA at the National Schools' Debating Competition in Brisbane. The trials will consist of a general knowledge test and lots of impromptu practice debates. Interested students should prepare by keeping up with current affairs by watching the programs such at the Channel 2 or SBS world news, the 7.30 report and Lateline. Along with that, another useful resources is reputable internet news websites and national newspapers. If you have any further questions please contact the State Team Co-Coaches for 2010 Jeremy Rich and Elizabeth Honey at coach@wadl.org.au. We look forward to seeing you on what will be a fun filled day! |

Many of you may have heard about ongoing closures of Shenton College as a result of storm damage sustained on Monday afternoon. We have spoken with debating co-ordinators at Shenton College and all scheduled debating events will go ahead as planned as fortunately, areas used for debating purposes are undamaged. This includes the WADL State Teams trials (to be held this Sunday, March 28) and the scheduled debating night of Round One (to be held Tuesday, March 30). Should you have further questions please contact the WADL 2010 President, Lauren Falconer as president@wadl.org.au. We look forward to seeing you at the events! |
